Four Filipinos jailed for MyKad fraud

KOTA KINABALU: Four Filipinos pleaded guilty at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to a charge of fraudulent use of identity cards.

Magistrate Edward Paul sentenced Biting Abdul Karim, 52, Siti Erajah Tugasan, 40, Mar Akbara, 31, and Amilia Sabiran, 40, to 14 months’ jail each.

Biting admitted to using the MyKad of one Abd Ghani Hasrin, bearing registration numbers 560209-12-5257, while Siti and Mar used the MyKads of Jaime Onong (78015-12-5656) and Sanny Albasir (820101-12-5836), respectively.

The charge under Section 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 provides for a jail term of up to three years or a fine of not less than RM3,000 on conviction.

Meanwhile, Amilia admitted to using a fake identity card bearing the registration name of ‘Mary Intil’ with serial numbers 770402-12-5836.

The offence under Section 25(1)(e) of the same Act carries a jail term of up to three years or a fine of not less than RM3,000 upon conviction.

All four of the accused committed their offences on November 11 at Terminal Two of the Kota Kinabalu International Airport.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng told the court that the four accused were arrested en route to Kuala Lumpur, departing from Kota Kinabalu.

The court also ordered for all the four accused to be referred to the Immigration Department upon serving their sentences and for the MyKads to be disposed of.

In an unrelated case, Edward sentenced Faizal Jamjair, 47, to 12 months’ imprisonment for possessing 0.24 gram of syabu on July 29 this year in a hotel room in Inanam.

The offence under Section 12 of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 carries a penalty of up to RM100,000 or maximum five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
