KUCHING: Team Napoli scored 2-1 against Al-Ain FC to emerge champion in the recent Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak campus 7-aside football tournament and bagged the Pro Vice-Chancellor’s challenge trophy.

The champions were unstoppable and impressed the crowd with their fancy footworks and solid team spirit.

They drew first blood in the opening minutes of the match to the delight for their supporters and could have enjoyed a feast of goals but settled for two after full time.

Al-Ain FC were no pushovers but poor finishing in the first half of the match had left them firing blanks with only a shot failed to be saved by Napoli’s last man.

On top of winning the title, Napoli’s seven-goal Tanzanian striker Amani Virani Msofe was named top scorer of the tournament and received the award from former Sarawak’s Premier League squad midfield maestro, Guy Bwele from Cameroon.

Leicester City finished third placing after drawing 1-1 with Flamingo.

Swinburne Sarawak’s Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive, Professor Anthony Cahalan gave away prizes to the winners.

A total of 15 teams from the university competed in the three-day tournament which was organised to foster cordial relations among the students through sports especially football.

Earlier this year, students representing team Malaysia and Nigeria qualified for the finals of the university’s Registrar’s Cup Challenge Trophy football tournament where 13 teams took part.
