SK Siol Kanan wins inaugural Under-12 cricket tournament

KUCHING: SK Siol Kanan (Preve) won the innaugural Kuching Under-12 Sixes Cricket competition yesterday.

They defeated SK Gita 2 (Cobra) in the final with a super over.

The two finalists were evenly matched in the penultimate game with the regular match actually ending in a tie.

According SK Siol Kanan (Preve) team coach Abdul Mutalib Hussain, the win meant a lot to him as it was his first tournament win as a coach.

“The win today was no fluke. I have been coaching this team for five years and, today, our efforts were handsomely rewarded,” he said.

The tournament, organised by the Sarawak Cricket Association (SCA) in collaboration with Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) attracted 16 teams.

The three-day competition was held at Padang Merdeka from Nov 8-10.

Present to watch the final match were DBKU mayor Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, State Education director Datu Abdillah Adam and SCA president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohammed.
