100 foreigners convicted for illegal entry

KOTA KINABALU: One hundred foreigners were convicted in the Immigration Court here on separate charges of entering the State illegally.

Judge Azreena Aziz imposed the custodial sentence of between four and five months on each of the accused persons after they pleaded guilty to their charges under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act which provides for a fine or a jail term of up to five years or both and whipping, upon conviction.

Meanwhile, 58 of the accused were ordered to be given one stroke of the cane.

All of them were arrested during separate operations in Ranau, Tenom, Keningau and Kota Kinabalu between August and October this year.

Immigration prosecuting officers Shaiful Izuat Abd Shani, Norlyah Stoh and Hamisah Puteh appeared for the prosecution.
