TAWAU: Kalabakan Umno has received instructions to hold a Special Election Meeting for Kalabakan Umno Wanita wing on November 16 to elect new committee members after 14 committee members resigned last month.

Kalabakan Umno division chief Datuk Seri Panglima Abdul Ghapur Salleh said the directive was received through an official letter sent by the Umno Supreme Council.

As a result, he said, Kalabakan Umno secretary would send out notice of the meeting to the women’s branches of the division.

“This election is to fill the 14 vacant seats and all of the women who resigned last month are not allowed to seek re-election,” he said yesterday.

Ghapur, who is also the Kalabakan member of parliament, said the decision was to ensure there would be no more committee members resigning after results of the election were received.

Last month, Kalabakan Umno Wanita wing became the national focus when the 14 elected committee members resigned a few days after winning the election on grounds that they were not satisfied with the election process.
