SERIAN: Beneficiaries of ‘1Azam Khidmat – Memotong Rumput’ were yesterday reminded to use the equipments they received wisely and not to sell them.

They were also told the programme was one of the ways for the government to help them make extra income and improve their livelihood.

This advice came from Samarahan walikota Dato Federick Bayoi Manggie at a ceremony to hand out RM260,034 worth of landscaping and grass cutting tools as well as safety apparels to 26 recipients of the ‘1Azam Khidmat – Memotong Rumput’ programme in Serian.

“Please, don’t sell what were given and use these equipment wisely to avoid them being damaged beyond repair,” he said to the recipients registered under E-Kasih at Serian District Office yesterday.

He also hoped that the supplier of the equipments would provide technical support and repair service to the recipients who were all from the poor and low-income category.

Bayoi was representing Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais who had to attend another official function.

Among those present at the ceremony were Serian district officer Sinde Muling, officers from the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Unit), department heads and community leaders.

Bayoi also told the recipients that what were given to them might change their way of life and even though it was a small assistance, if successful, they might get a bigger allocation from the government.

Thus, he told them to be always receptive of the government’s development programmes and reciprocate by giving the government their support.

Meanwhile, in his speech earlier, Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development Unit assistant director Salbiah Salji said that the assistance was to help the recipients to be self-reliant and to improve their standards of living.

“The equipment given by our department under 1Azam: Khidmat is just the tip of the iceberg but the reward will be more if we can help ourselves and others and the government to progress,” he told them.
