KUCHING: The crime index in the city saw a decrease by 19 per cent from January to October this year compared to the same period last year.

In revealing this, Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad said there were only 2,983 cases so far recorded this year compared to 3,663 cases last year.

There was a difference of 680 cases, he said, adding that he was optimistic that the crime index would continue to decrease due to the hard work and effort put in by the police to curb crime.

“However, this is not an excuse for us to stop but should inspire us to work harder to prevent crime,” he said when met after the police monthly gathering at Kuching District Police Station in Jalan Simpang Tiga here yesterday morning.

He also said crime prevention operations, including ‘Ops Bersepadu’, should be carried out from time to time.

“There is still room for improvement but we will work harder to reach the target to put the people’s safety at top priority.”

At the same time, he reminded police personnel to improve their performance and continue to be committed in serving the people.
