LAHAD DATU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a local man to 48 months’ imprisonment for having 0.08 gram of methamphetamine.
Abdul Majid Abdul Wahid, 32, was jailed after he pleaded guilty before Sessions Court judge M.Rajalingam, who sat as a magistrate to the offence under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, and punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
Deputy public prosecutor Shukor Abu Bakar told the court that the accused was arrested on June 26, this year in front of the district hospital at Jalan Silam.
During inspection by police from the narcotic unit, the accused threw a plastic packet containing crystalline powder, believed to be syabu, and foil.
The powder was confirmed to be methamphetamine by the Chemical Department and the court ordered the accused to serve his sentence from the date of arrest.
