KUALA LUMPUR: An enhanced assessment process for foreign student visa applications will be implemented to bring Malaysia on par with the best practices of leading international education destinations.

Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) aims to bring the new system tothe same level as the processes currently in practice in the United Kingdom, United States and Australia.

EMGS Chief Executive Officer Yazid Hamid explained that this was made possible by the integration of EMGS’ STARS (Student Application Registration System) and the Department of Immigration’s MyImms System.

“The integration of the two systems will ensure that the processing time for the issuance of the Visa Approval Letter is within our Client Charter,” he said in a statement today.

He said the integration would also enable EMGS and the Department of Immigration to receive real time updates on approvals and identify immediately the problems arising with any applications.

EMGS will also be implementing an enhanced assessment process using a risk profiling matrix which will put low risk profile applicants on a fast track process.

Low risk applicants also stand to enjoy several exemptions, including the acceptance of pre-arrival medical screening report.

The risk profiling matrix would also allow resources to be focused on scrutinising higher risk applications.

Yazid said one of EMGS’ main objectives was to create an efficient and modern system on par with best practices, as a part of its long term vision to develop Malaysia into an international education and training hub.

EMGS, under the purview of the Ministry of Education, operates a one-stop centre to provide integrated international marketing and promotion for education and training as well as a single interface for foreign student visa application, processing and issuance. — BERNAMA
