Four quakes Jolt Northern, Eastern Peru

LIMA: A series of medium-intensity earthquakes rattled parts of northern and eastern Peru on Thursday morning, without causing injuries or damage.

The first quake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale occurred at 01:22 a.m.

in the northern region of Cajamarca, with its epicentre 18 km southwest of Jaen province.

About an hour and a half later, a 4.4-magnitude quake was recorded near the city of Pucallpa in eastern Ucayali region, and was quickly followed by a 4.1-magnitude tremor in the northern region of Piura.

According to Peru’s Geophysical Institute, or IGP, the strongest quake of the day struck at 10:02 a.m. near the town of Olmos in northern Lambayeque region.

It measured 5.3 on the Richter scale and its epicentre was 43 kilometres southwest of Olmos.

No injuries or damage have been reported from the quakes. –BERNAMA
