MIRI: KTS Foundation has been praised for choosing to support education as one of its community service initiatives.

Recipients of the foundation’s bursaries said the awards would go a long way in supporting their journey in education.

“I am so glad to be selected as one of the recipients. This is my first time ever receiving study incentives. Surely whatever amount is given will help my mum who is a single mother, having to support three of us in the family,” said recipient Florence Bawe Senin from SMK Lutong.

Florence’s mother Mujan Anyi also thanked the KTS Foundation for the bursary and hoped that the community project would continue for the benefit of students from low income families.

Recipient Jeffrey Sam from SMK Joseph agreed that the education aid would help to ensure he could purchase necessary items such as reference books.

See Hua Marketing Miri branch manager Wong Kee Mee said 22 students were selected for the Miri region. “The main objectives are to lighten the financial burden of their parents, motivate the students to strive for academic excellence and promote a good reading habit among students,” Wong said during the presentation ceremony yesterday.

The 22 recipients here are from eight secondary schools — SMK Vocational Miri, SMK Agama Miri, SMK Riam, SMK Dato Permaisuri, SMK St. Columba, SMK St. Joseph, SMK Lutong and SMK Luak.
