National unity and integration blueprint to be drawn up

KUALA LUMPUR: A blueprint on efforts to forge national unity and integration will be drawn up under the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Joseph Kurup said the blueprint which would be an important mechanism in achieving national unity and integration would go through various levels of consultation before being announced to the public.

He said the members of the NUCC working committee would be going to the ground to hold a series of  dialogues and roundtable discussions with various parties to obtain input for the blueprint.

“All views will be evaluated towards boosting society’s understanding of national unity and integration.

“The NUCC will focus its attention on creating public awareness and understanding that each of us is responsible for fostering unity.”

He said this to reporters after visiting the Kuala Lumpur International Motor Show 2013 (KLIMS13) at the Putra World Trade Centre, here, yesterday.

The proposed setting up of the NUCC was announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak in the Dewan Rakyat on June 26 in efforts to strengthen  national unity.

Kurup said the individuals selected to the NUCC would be announced at the handing-out of the appointment letters to them by the prime minister next Monday. — Bernama
