KUALA LUMPUR: A Filipina and her local boyfriend who were detained by the police in connection with the abduction of a British toddler on Nov 8, in Bangsar have been released.
The 39-year-old woman and the 53-year-old man who were nabbed on Nov 10 in Old Klang Road were released yesterday, from the Brickfields police headquarters.
The Filipina had previously worked as a nanny for 20-month-old toddler Freddie Joseph who was found unharmed, a day after the abduction.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said statements were recorded from the duo to facilitate investigations.
“While investigations are underway, there is no fresh development on the case,” he told a media conference at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.
He also showed reporters a closed-circuit television recording of the toddler’s abduction from the family home in Jalan Terasik, Bangsar.
The eight-minute recording showed a man emerging from a white Toyota Camry and rushing into the compound of the toddler’s home.
A tussle ensued between Freddie’s mother, Sarah and the man, who then handed the toddler to his accomplice who was waiting in the car parked outside the house.
The duo escaped with the toddler who was found unharmed the following day, in Taman Tasek Titiwangsa here. — Bernama
