KUCHING: UCSI Communications Sdn Bhd will place a donation box for the Pacific Asia Travel Associations (Pata) Foundation Philippines Relief Campaign at the two-day Asia Pacific Tourism, Hospitality and Technology (Apthat) Conference starting today.

The conference will be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

UCSI Communications said in a press release yesterday that it hoped the conference’s guests and delegates would contribute generously to the campaign for victims of Typhoon Haiyan in Cebu.

All donations collected at the conference will be handed over to conference speaker Andrew Jones, who is a Pata executive board member.

Prior to the conference, Jones was in Cebu helping the local Pata Foundation chapter to distribute aid to those affected by the typhoon.

Initiated and organised by UCSI Communications, the first Apthat conference features speakers who are all experts in their respective fields.

Minister of Tourism and Culture Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz is expected to officiate at the opening while Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Mirza Mohammad Tayeb will deliver the keynote address.

The conference will focus on travel technology and hospitality automation with programmes including workshops, master-classes, networking sessions and exhibitions.

UCSI Communications hopes the conference could further enhance the state’s efforts to make Sarawak a meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) destination in Malaysia.

Besides Jones, other speakers at the conference are Edward Dramberger and Andrew Jones (United States); Prof Dr Ross Dowling and Salina Power (Australia); Dr Madanmohan Roa and E M Najeeb (India); Masaru Takayama (Japan); as well as Albert Teo, Duncan Bereau, Rohizam Md Yusoff and Dr Peter Ting (Malaysia).

The conference is endorsed by Tourism Malaysia and the Ministry of Tourism and supported by Malaysia Airlines and Travel and Tour World.

UCSI Communications, a member of the UCSI Group, is a registered Professional Conference Organiser (PCO) and has organised various events both in Sarawak and other states in Malaysia.
