KUCHING: The Nanyang Wushu Federation of Sarawak will hold ‘The Nanyang Wushu Drum Festival 2013’ at Crown Towers, Jalan Pending tomorrow.

Assistant Minister of Tourism Datuk Talib Zulpilip will officiate at the opening at 11am and the public are invited to attend the free event.

A press release issued yesterday said the festival will see a series of drum performances based on the rhythm drum beat called ‘The Thunder Beats of Nanyang Wushu Drums’.

The art was choreographed by federation instructor-in-chief grandmaster Professor Datuk Seri Dr Song Swee Hee in 1993.

The 12 drums represent the 12 months of the year, four sets of cymbals represents the four seasons, while the gong represents one cycle of a year.

The highlight of the event will be the multicultural drums performance called ‘Seribu Rentak’.

It reflects the beats of the various ethnic groups in Sarawak such as the Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Malay, Chinese and Indians.

Besides ‘Seribu Rentak’, the 1Malaysia cultural dance and wushu will be performed.

Metro Sedia Group is the main sponsor, while the co-sponsors are the management of Crown Square and Neudimenxion.

It is supported by the Ministry of Social Development and the Ministry of Tourism.
