Malindo Air to fly to Chittagong next year

Posted on November 23, 2013, Saturday

KUCHING: Malindo Air has unveiled its continuous expansion plans with the announcement of the launching of flights from Kuala Lumpur to Chittagong, Bangladesh, from Jan 2 next year.

This marked its second route to Bangladesh.

Bookings are available now, and the all-inclusive one-way fare will start from RM455 to Chittagong from Kuala Lumpur, and the all-in return fare is RM955.

Offering services of thrice weekly by brand new Boeing 737-900ER, the new flight will provide connectivity to the second most populous city in Bangladesh with a population of over 6.5 million. Chittagong is Bangladesh’s principal seaport, and an important industrial, financial, and commercial hub.

The flight is the latest addition to Malindo Air’s long-term plan to convert Kuala Lumpur as the regional transit hub that allows convenient connectivity for its passengers.

Malindo Air’s chief executive officer Chandran Rama Muthy said the modern city of Chittagong is regarded as the commercial capital of Bangladesh.

“We are extremely excited about the huge potential of this new connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and Chittagong as the city handles over 80 per cent of Bangladesh’s international trade, and is home to many of Bangladesh’s largest and oldest companies. We are also anticipating good response from the business travellers as Chittagong’s industrial zones are among the world’s most competitive manufacturing hubs,” he said in a statement from Kuala Lumpur.

“Chittagong is an important regional gateway and transit hub by many neighbouring countries, including India and China, as well as other international investors.

“Chittagong is also an ideal vacation spot. Its green hills and forests plus its broad sandy beaches and fine cool climate always attract holiday-makers. Malindo Air will be able to provide business and leisure travellers with convenient connectivity options with our thrice weekly services,” he noted.
