RM10,000 armed robbery at Tawau convenience store

The 24-hour convenience store which was robbed early yesterday morning.

TAWAU: A 24-hour convenience store and two of its employees at Taman Bintang, Apas road, Mile 2 ½ here were robbed of about RM10,000 in cash and items by four people while an accomplice was waiting in a car outside the store early morning yesterday.

The robbers were said to be wearing caps when they entered the convenience store and approached the two employees in the incident about 4.40am.

A spokesman for the convenience store said the robbers pointed a knife at two of the employees on duty and ordered them to hand over any valuable things.

“The robbers grabbed a drawer from the cashier counter which contained cash and important documents.

According to him, the robbers escaped in a car after committing the robbery, and no one was injured.

The store owner accompanied the employees to lodge a police report soon after the incident yesterday.

Meanwhile, district police chief ACP Awang Besar Dullah disclosed that the robbers got away with RM3,000 cash as well as Maxis and Celcom prepaid cards worth about RM700 from the cashier counter.

“They also stole a Samsung Tab 7.0 tablet, Sony Experia and Nokia mobile phones, and a gold ring worth RM170 from one of the workers.

“The other worker surrendered his wallet which contained his MyKad, birth certificate and about RM5 cash to the robber,” he added.

According to Awang Besar, total losses were estimated to be around RM10,000.
