KUCHING: SUPP disapproves the manner by which Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon

Koh went about appointing councillors and community leaders in the state.

This was revealed in a press statement issued by the SUPP central secretariat after the central working committee (CWC) meeting chaired by president Tan Sri Peter Chin at the party headquarters here yesterday.

Chin politely refused to speak to the press after the meeting, giving the reason that all he had to say was in the statement.

The statement said the party “is very disappointed with the attitude adopted by” Wong for the way he handled the appointments.

“There is no consultation at all between the minister concerned and SUPP, a component party of state BN on such matters, which affect the credibility as well as the effectiveness of the party on issues affecting its members, especially those from the Chinese community, which forms the majority of members in the party,” the statement said.

Wong, as a member of SUPP in the state cabinet, the statement asserted, should at least consult the party on the appointments of councillors and community leaders.

“Instead, he went about the process ignoring whatever proposals or letters written to him by the party secretary-general (Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian) on matters which are deemed important and crucial to the party.”

The statement said SUPP supported such appointments but not the manner in which the minister went about gathering feedback, nominations and or appointments for such posts.
