SIBU: Sibu Life Care Society certainly lives up to its name – rolling out 11 blood donations to-date – making it the most active NGO in Sibu region to do so.

Local blood bank publicity officer Kenneth Numan confirmed this yesterday, adding that the organisation had never failed to roll out a drive each month.

The society’s chairman Sia Yuk Chuong was determined to do more, targeting to collect more pints of type A and B blood which the blood bank urgently needed.

“Overall, we target to collect about 100 pints of blood today (yesterday) to help save lives,” Sia said when met at the drive at Delta Mall here yesterday, adding that they would wrap up their programme for the year with another drive next month.

He also sang praises for the local populace for their caring attitude in responding promptly to those in need.

The society’s drive liaison officer Hii Hing Yiu also donated, making this his 49th time.

Hii, coincidently aged 49, recalled his first time donating blood in 1999.

“I was really nervous back then, perhaps, of the needle,” he chuckled.

The drive yesterday received good response as people from all walks of life responded.

It was also memorable partly because it was Kenneth’s last drive here, as he would be posted to Miri next month.

Meanwhile, Sia said donors each received a 5kg rice pack, chicken essence and bread as a token of appreciation for their contribution.
