ALL GONE: Fire destroyed six stalls at Tamu Kedayan in Miri at about 2am yesterday.
MIRI: Six fruit and vegetable stalls at Tamu Kedayan in Oleander Road here were razed by fire yesterday.
No one was hurt in the 2am incident.
The cause of the fire has yet to be ascertained but some traders believed it was arson.
A trader, Sida Entili, 57, told The Borneo Post at the scene that all fruits and vegetables kept at the stalls were destroyed.
Sida, who has been trading in the area for some three years now, said she believed it could be arson because there had been instances of vandalism and strangers loitering around the area near midnight on many occasions.
“Last night, for instance, strangers carted away several baskets of fruits and vegetables from other stalls when the ‘Tamu’ (wet market) was on fire,” she said.
Sida claimed she lost more than RM300 worth of fruits, vegetables, and other items to the fire.
Seven firemen in one fire engine rushed to the scene when the alarm was raised.
