‘Spying is not acceptable’

PUTRAJAYA: Spying is unacceptable, especially among countries regarded as friends, said Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek.

He said it was improper for a nation to spy on the ‘conversation’ of a friendly nation or neighbour, regardless whether it was related to a sensitive matter or otherwise.

“I am not accusing anyone in this matter, the United States or any other nation…but in principle, fundamentally, they cannot do that (spying),” he told reporters here yesterday.

He said this when asked to comment on a report by a news portal recently, on a secret document leaked by whistleblower Edward Snowden, revealing that Singapore was helping a spy group which was allegedly involved in spying activities on Malaysia. — Bernama
