Masidi hopes defections will open eyes of Sabahans

KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Masidi Manjun said he was not surprised by the ‘crossover’ issue in Malaysia, especially in Sabah after the last general election.

There is a huge difference between ‘sweet words’ during election campaign and the reality of politics, he said after launching the Adult Literacy Program for Orang Asli and Indigenous parents (KEDAP) programme at the Palace Hotel yesterday.

Masidi was commenting on the recent action by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) divisional chiefs from Sabah who jumped ship to join Barisan Nasional (BN).

“From my observation in this kind of politics, it shows that politics is not necessarily beautiful. Let them explain their reasons for leaving their party.

“I am hoping that their action will open the eyes of Sabahans who do not want to support the government. They (the people) should evaluate our performance as the government,” he said.

Masidi added that there is no perfect political party, but the BN has its own advantage, which is to always put efforts to improve the well-being of the people as a whole.
