Housewife robbed in broad daylight

KUCHING: An elderly woman was robbed in broad daylight after she was dragged outside her house from the car porch in Jalan Song last Saturday by two thieves who then fled with her handbag and a Rolex watch.

In the noon incident, the 66-year-old housewife had just reached home and stepped out from the car when a stranger entered the compound of her house.

He grabbed her handbag but in a struggle to save it, she was dragged a few steps until she was outside the gate.

In the ensuing struggle, another robber used a parang to cut off the strap of the handbag.

Threatened by the suspects, she also had to surrender her expensive watch.

The thieves then fled on a motorbike. She could not identify its registration number and type of vehicle as she was in shock.

The victim sustained bruises on both hands and body in the struggle.

She claimed to have lost her driving licence, credit cards, mobile phones and thousands in cash that were inside her handbag.

A police report was lodged with investigations in progress.

In a separate case, a 79-year-old pensioner was robbed by a man in front of his house at Hui Sing Garden here last Saturday morning.

Sources disclosed that in the incident around 11.45am, the victim was waiting inside the car while his brother opened the gate.

A man suddenly emerged and on pretext of asking him where his brother was, the thief suddenly lunged for a bag in the driver’s  seat containing the victim’s identity card, driving licence, land taxes book, sunglasses and bank book, before fleeing on a motorbike.

He has lodged a police report on the crime.

Elsewhere, a lady receptionist was robbed of her handbag at ‘samurai-point’ while leaving her work place at Tabuan Stutong Commercial Centre on Saturday morning.

According to sources, the 21-year-old victim was walking outside the hotel when a man on a motorbike showed up and brandished the samurai sword at her around 6.50am.

Fearing for her safety, she surrendered her handbag containing her bank card, cash and mobile phones.

She subsequently lodged a police report.
