Man jailed over knife, break-in

TAWAU: A 34-year-old jobless man was sentenced to a total of 22 months’ jail and one stroke of the cane by the Magistrate Court here yesterday for possession of a knife and housebreaking.

Magistrate Ferhanshah Farene meted out the sentence on Amir bin Isnin who pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive and Dangerous Weapon Act and Section 457 of the Penal Code.

Ferhanshah sentenced the accused to seven months’ jail for possession of a 7-inch knife and fifteen months for trespassing and stealing a Toshiba laptop. Both the sentences are to run from the date of arrest on November 29 this year.

The accused was caught by a security guard with the stolen laptop and the knife tucked in his pants at about 4:35pm at Kuhara Court. He had entered a house, stolen the laptop and tried to trick the guard that he found the laptop in a garbage bin.
