Local faces trial for raping 14-year-old

KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here yesterday fixed Dec 16–17 this year for the rape trial of a young local man.

Judge Ismail Brahim fixed the dates at the mention of Wan Shah Riatin’s case here yesterday.

In the first charge, the 22-year-old is accused of raping a 14-year-old girl at a house, at a village in Kota Belud on May 7, this year at 2pm.

The offence, stipulated under Section 376 (2) (d) of the Penal Code, carries a maximum 20 years’ imprisonment, and liable to whipping, upon conviction.

The accused faces a second charge under the same Section and same Act for raping the same victim, on May 6, this year at 9pm at the same place.

Meanwhile, Mohd Sukri Jerin, 24, faces a charge for committing a similar offence under the same Section and same Act.

The unrepresented accused allegedly raped an underage girl on May 6, this year at 12am, at a house in Kota Belud. The court fixed Jan 13, 2014 for his case management.

Ismail also fixed April 21 – 22, 2014 for the rape trial of Mohd Almye Syah Ardon at the Sessions Court in Kota Belud.

Mohd Almye, 24, is charged with raping another 14-year-old girl, on June 8, this year, also at a house in Kota Belud, at 11am.

Deputy public prosecutor Nartiah F Mirchelle Sambatan acted for the prosecution while counsel Haji Shukor Abdul Mumin acted for Wan Shah and Mohd Almye.
