KUCHING: Sekama Community Association Kuching will continue to act as a bridge between the people and the government.
Chairman Sim Siang Mong said the community association and community leaders have vital roles to connect the people with local representatives and the government.
“The community association unites the community and enhances relationships amongst the community as well,” he said during the association’s new committee installation night on Wednesday.
He said the community association has initiated the development of facilities and assisted in neighbourhood security.
“It was our founders’ wisdom to set up the community association, which is much needed by the community until today. We will work harder in order to bring more development and contributions to the community,” he said.
He praised permanent honorary advisor Temenggong Lu Kim Yong for his continuous service in many areas for the Chinese community.
Lu pointed out that community work required cooperation.
“After applying for land to build our office building for so many years with no result until now, I think the association functions are not affected because we still had many interesting activities well-known and well received by the community.”
The association also purchased RM3,000 worth of Chung Hua Middle School fundraising lucky draw tickets in support of Chinese-medium education.
