MIRI: The Miri Car Dealers Association has called on the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to tweak its My Sikap system, which is said to be flawed.

Association chairman Tan Kim Boon said many problems have arisen since JPJ replaced the old system with My Sikap.

“The previous system was Sikap and they replaced it with My Sikap. But this new system is causing many problems, especially when it comes to registration of new vehicles, ownership transfers and amendments of vehicle details,” he told a press conference yesterday.

Association deputy chairman Chong Chin Poh said the new system has caused delays on many applications.

“Some of my documents have been in waiting for almost a month.

“I have contacted the department but there is nothing they can do about it because it is the new system that is causing the delays.

“I do not blame JPJ staff for these delays, it is unfair to blame them.

“It is not their fault, they are just doing their jobs. It is the new system that is causing all these problems,” he said.

He called on the authorities concerned to improve the system so that all the department’s services could be carried out smoothly and on time.

Meanwhile, the association said it is pleased the government has not proceeded with a plan to cap the lifespan of cars to 15 years.

Tan said the move would have definitely burdened the people, especially those in the low income group.

“We are happy that the proposal was not put in place and we urge that this issue should never arise again.

“Our country is still developing and the people definitely cannot cope with such a proposal.

“This will also put many people in debt particularly with car loans,” he said.
