Lions club chips in for fire victims

MIRI: New Century Lions Club here wasted no time in utilising their RM7,000 project fund and donations from members and friends to help fire victims of Rumah Ngindang Ail Enteli, Sepupok, Niah.

Led by their president Irene Wong, the members together with the Region 3 chairperson Ronny Ling yesterday came to the village to hand over the necessities they bought from the money to the 329 fire victims.

Among the necessities purchased were 42 school bags, 500 kg of rice, 50kg of sugar, four boxes of cooking oil, 72 boxes of noodles (Mee Sedap), 38 boxes of drinking water, two boxes of Vico, five boxes of cream crackers, 50 sets of tooth brushes and toothpaste and 50 mattress co-sponsored by ISO Furniture.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the villagers was the village headman Ngindang.

Also present was community leader Kapitan How Min Wai.

“We responded immediately when we saw the news about the fire which had burned down the 42-door Rumah Ngindang Ail Enteli.

“It’s my pleasure to thank my District 308-A2 Governor Kung Kuok Yiew and Immediate past district Governor Chieng Eu Hea for the grant from our district fund which was approved yesterday and we wish to raise another RM4,000 to help the fire victims to buy raw materials for them to build their homes again,” said Wong.

She also thanked A.T.Dunia for their contributions in transporting all the goods to the longhouse.
