SEMPORNA: The marine police and the Semporna Fishery Department seized around 200 kilogrammes of fish worth RM1,450 at the fish market here yesterday.

They were believed to have been caught using explosives.

Sabah Marine Police Commander ACP Mohamad Madun said 17 marine police officers and four officers from the Fishery Department carried out the Ops Cantas Khas Laut Bersepadu to inspect the fish sold at the market yesterday morning.

The operation was to ensure the fish were not caught using explosives and also to warn operators and fish vendors against selling such fish.

Most of the vendors at the market attempted to escape during the inspection.

Mohamad urged the public and community living on the coastline, especially in Semporna, to provide information on fish bombing to the marine police.

He said the marine police and Fishery Department would continue to cooperate to tackle fish bombing activities in Sabah waters.
