Ling team wins Foochow Association election

KOTA KINABALU: The team led by Ling Yii Yen won the Foochow Association Kota Kinabalu election yesterday.

Thirty-three out of 37 candidates from Ling’s camp were elected, whilst four out of 37 from the rival camp led by Tang Yew Hia were elected.

An executive committee shall consist of 41 officers of which 37 shall be elected by secret ballot among the members and four other officers shall be appointed by the executive committee. The executive committee shall be formed within two weeks after the annual general meeting.

A total of 816 members have registered for ballot papers, while 814 members cast their votes. Of the total votes cast, four spoilt votes were recorded. The turnout was 69.5 per cent.

Ling polled 476, the highest number of votes among 74 candidates, followed by Dato?Wong Hai Ming (468) of the same team. Tang obtained 415 votes.

In an interview at the venue, Ling expressed his gratitude to members who voted for the 16th executive committee.

“No matter which team they voted for, they have fulfilled their responsibility.

“And the election process went smoothly,” he said.

Ling hoped that all elected candidates would work together for the betterment of the association.

“We will not let our members down, we will do our best.”
