KUCHING: People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) Sarawak will hold a state-level shooting tournament in Miri this weekend.

To be held from Dec 14 to 16, the competition (Rela Shooting Skills Test) will be held at the Miri PGA Shooting Range.

Nine practice categories involving rifle, shotgun and pistol will be contested during the tournament.

According to Rela state director Brigadier-General Rini Tupong, the objective of the tournament is to train Rela members to be more efficient in handling firearms.

“It is now compulsory for all Rela members to know how to handle firearms. This competition will provide them with good practice. The competition is also a venue to strengthen ties among members,” he told a press conference at the Rela headquarters in Jalan Rock here yesterday.

Thirty-three Rela district offices throughout the state including its headquarters here involving 184 personnel will be involved in the event.

“The winners will represent the state at the national-level competition to be held sometime in March next year,” Rini said.

All trophies and prizes for the tournament are sponsored by Bumi Kita, a Kuching-based company.

Its managing director Datuk Paruwadi Musa was also present at the Rela headquarters to hand over the trophies and prizes.
