53rd S’wak Gree table tennis tourney attract 200 entries

SIBU: The 53rd Sarawak Gree table tennis championship to be held from Dec 15 to 19 had attracted 200 paddlers from Kuching, Samarahan, Mukah, Sarikei, Bintulu, Sibu and Sibu.

The five-day championship, organised by Sibu Ping Pong Association, is being held to foster close rapport among the players.

“Apart from that, we are also aiming to give the paddlers a platfrom to gauge their standard,” event organising secretary Desmond Ling said.

He added the competition is divided into team and individual sections.

“This is going to be an interesting competition and we invite local table tennis enthusiasts to come out in full force to watch the events unfolding and to suport their teams,” Ling said.

For the individual section, the championship is divided into Men’s and Ladies’ Open Doubles and Singles, Boy’s and Girl’s New Hope, Boy’s and Girl’s Under-18, Under-15, Under-13 and Under-10, Men’s Veteran, Men’s Veteran and Bumiputra category.

Matches will be played from 8am to 12pm, from 1.30pm to 5pm and from 7pm to 9pm.

SPPA President Vincent Lau Lee Ming is expected to grace the opening ceremony at 7pm while Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh will officiate the closing ceremony on Dec 19 at 7pm at Kingwood Hotel.
