KUALA LUMPUR: World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei emerged top of the group after three successive wins in the BWF World Superseries Finals men’s singles round robin level here last night.

Cheered by the home crowd who packed the Kuala Lumpur Badminton Stadium, the Olympic silver-medallist beat Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark, 23-22, 24-22, after 50 minutes of a highly-charged game.

“I knew that with tonight’s game, whether I won or not, I’m already in the semifinal. So, I just maintained my performance to ensure that I would be able to win this game,” he told reporters after the match.

Chong Wei, who is now gearing up for the semifinal, is expected to meet either Jorgensen again who came out second in their group, or Kenichi Tago of Japan or Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia who topped the other group.

“It doesn’t matter who it’ll be, I just want to focus on my preparations,” he said.

The semifinal draw was to be held after all group matches end last night. — Benama
