KOTA KINABALU: A fisherman has been reported missing and feared drowned near Pulau Sepanggar, here on Thursday.

Search and rescue team only found Akmad Abdullah’s fishing boat but he was no where to be found after he was said to have gone to sea around midnight on December 12.

When the 56-year-old man failed to return home around 6am that morning, his wife immediately lodged a missing person’s report at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing.

It was said that the victim’s fishing boat was found abandoned by some of Akmad’s colleagues in the sea, near Pulau Sepanggar.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Captain Zin Azman Md Yunus said a search operation had been carried out by the agency since Thursday but failed to locate the victim.

“MMEA is making an effort to look for the victim,” he said, adding that fishermen and villagers were also involved in the rescue operation.
