KUALA LUMPUR: After 15 years of silence, Malaysia’s ever popular blues rock band, Blues Gang, is set to release a new album in January next year.

The album will feature six songs, four of which are new singles, which are expected to please the band’s longtime fans.

Its lead vocalist, Ito Mohd, when met at the National Press Club Malaysia’s (NPC) charity dinner on Saturday, described the album as so special as it also marked the band’s fourth decade of being in the entertainment industry.

The last time they released an album was in 1998, titled ‘Ribut Pendamai’.

“We are touched because it’s been a while since we released our last album, so the time is just right. The 15th album is hoped to please our fans who have been supporting us all this year,” Ito said after performing at the event earlier.

Other members of the band are Sheikh Karim (vocalist and drummer), Tok Ghani (keyboard), Jim Nadasamy (bass guitar), Julian Mokhtar (lead guitar) and Zizi Blues (guitar).

At the event, Blues Gang took the diners down the memory lane for a rocking good time with 19 songs, including a new single, titled ‘Maafkanlah’.

Their evergreen hits include ‘Oh Mama, Saya Mahu Kahwin, ‘Apo Nak Di Kato’ and ‘Mak Siti’.

Ito said they also hoped that the new album would pave the way for them to hold a concert at the prestigious Istana Budaya or going on a nationwide road tour next year.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Karim said  all this while, the band was also active in singing in clubs.

“During our joint concert with Sweet Charity in 2011, we found that many young people were in the crowd. When asked, they said they grew up listening to our songs because their parents were hardcore fans of Blues Gang,” he added proudly. — Bernama
