A TOTAL of 68,299 people who were declared bankrupts from 2005 to 2012 were individuals below the age of 45 years, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said they were among the 129,640 people who were declared bankrupt in the past seven years.

As a result, he said the government, through the Malaysian Department of Insolvency (MDI), was organising various programmes to educate the youths and create public awareness on insolvency.

“Promotion through the electronic media had been made through insolvency trailers as well as in radio and television talk shows including on the university radio,” he said in a written reply to a question by Senator Datuk Megat Zulkarnain Omardin in the Dewan Negara.

From January 2012 to October 2013, MDI had conducted more than 120 programmes involving youths. — Bernama
