LONDON: Noorkhairan Nordin, the education attache for religious matters and counselling at the Malaysian High Commission in London, has been accredited as the registrar for marriages, divorces and reconciliation for Malaysian Muslims in the United Kingdom and Eire.

Noorkhairan, 32, received his certification of accreditation Wednesday from the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also the president of the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs).

The certificate, signed by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail, authorises Noorkhairan to serve as the registrar for Muslims not only from Perlis but also the other states in Malaysia who are in the UK and Eire.

After receiving the certificate, Noorkhairan told Bernama he hoped that Malaysian Muslims in London would not regard getting married abroad as something simple because he would scrutinise every application for marriage.

He said he anticipated that Malaysian students in the UK and Eire would also be included in the list of those who would get married abroad. — Bernama
