SANDAKAN: The Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) is to hold a simulation exercise at a tourist destination to test the elements of collaboration, understanding and coordination of the security forces.

Its director-general, Datuk Mohammad Mentek, said the exercise would be carried out shortly, coordinated by Esscom’s Security and Public Order Division.

The exercise would test the capability of the security forces in thwarting incidents of abduction like the recent one on Pom Pom Island off Semporna, he said.

“The simulation exercise will be carried out at a tourist resort located on an island in waters off the east coast of the state,” he said when opening a workshop on drawing up a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the Sabah east coast.

He said all security forces would participate in the exercise.

Mohammad said Esscom was in the process of stepping up its preparedness as well as night patrols in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone). The patrols involved planes and helicopters, he added. — Bernama
