Police arrest Facebook account owner for inciting public to overthrow government

KUALA LUMPUR: Police yesterday arrested a Facebook account owner who goes by the name of Asmaelz Hadzeny II, who is wanted since last week for inciting the public to participate in demonstrations this Dec 31, to topple the government.

Federal police headquarters CID chief in Bukit Aman, Datuk Hadi Ho Abdullah said the 25-year-old man was nabbed at 11am in Saratok, Sarawak.

“The suspect, who is unemployed, will be sent to Kuala Lumpur to facilitate the investigation,” he said in a posting on the Royal Malaysia Police’s Facebook page.

Hadi said the case was being investigated under Section 124C of the Penal Code for attempting to commit an activity that is detrimental to parliamentarydemocracy.

Meanwhile, the attempt by certain quarters to hold illegal demonstrations to topple the government continued to receive strong protests from various groups.

In Shah Alam, five non-governmental organisations (NGOs), namely the British Army Ex-Servicmen’s Association Malaysia, Shah Alam Umno Veterans Club, Lembaga Pembangunan Pengguna Malaysia, Shah Alam Parliamentary Constituency KEMAS Kindergartens Association and Shah Alam Indian Progressive Front division lodged police reports at the district police headquarters this afternoon against the planned gatherings.

British Army Ex-Servicemen’s Association Malaysia representative, Abdul Aziz Joned, 77, said the government should take immediate stern action against the culprits who were trying to create turmoil in the country by toppling the elected government.

Shah Alam Umno Veterans Club secretary, Shamsudin Hashim, 59, said: “If they want to topple the government, wait for the next general election. We are given the opportunity to change the government every five years.”

In Kota Baharu, about 50 members of Pengkalan Chepa Umno Youth and Pertubuhan Barisan DarulNaim lodged police reports over the same matter at the Kota Baharu district police headquarters.

The division’s Youth chief Haris Hussin said they made the police report in line with their stand of wanting peace and stability to prevail in the country and urged the authorities to act fast against those involved.

In Tumpat, about 100 members of the Pertubuhan Kebajikan dan Dakwah Islamiah (Pekida), Tumpat lodged a similar report at the district police headquarters.

“The people must be united in preserving peace in this country by protesting against the planned illegal gatherings,” said Tumpat Pekida chairman Abdullah Abdul Rahman.

In Putrajaya, seven NGOs lodged police reports at the district police headquarters against the planned organising of the “Himpunan Guling Kerajaan” (Gatherings to Topple Government) on Dec 31. — Bernama
