SIBU: The public are invited to a stage entertainment that is a curtain-raiser to the New Year countdown tonight at the Town Square.
Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said the stage programme began at 7.30pm and would last until midnight when Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh lead the crowd in the countdown to the year 2014.
“A fireworks display begins at the stroke of midnight,” he enthused.
Tiong was speaking when chairing a monthly meeting of the council yesterday morning.
He told the meeting that the council collected RM33,841,289.48 in assessment rates this year.
“The rate of collection is 95.39 per cent,” he disclosed.
He said the council had collected 29.91 per cent of arrears amounting to RM1,315,333.39.
