KUCHING: Two men, aged 34, were killed after their car hit a tree at Mile 9 along Jalan Kuching-Serian here yesterday morning.
The victims were Chai who was the driver and Lai, the passenger.
According to sources, they were heading towards Serian in a Proton Iswara when the car rammed into a tree around 5.30am. Both of them succumbed to their injuries.
A member of the public tried to help the victims while others called the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and the police.
Bomba personnel took a while to extricate one of the victims who was pinned to the seat.
Both victims were taken to Sarawak General Hospital.
One of them died at the scene while the other was pronounced death upon arrival in hospital.
Last Dec 31, a teenager was similarly killed after hitting a tree at the same spot.
In a separate case yesterday, two men were rushed to hospital after they were injured in an accident at Batu Kawa New Township early yesterday morning.
They were said riding a motorbike to buy cigarettes at a convenience shop around 1am.
The motorcycle went out of control and was rammed by a car, the impact causing them to be flung a few metres from the scene.
They received treatment inside the ambulance.
