200 hours community service for keeping stolen motorbike

KOTA KINABALU: A local youth was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday to perform 200 hours community service for dishonestly keeping a stolen motorcycle.

Magistrate Herlina Muse made the order on Richard Nilus, 20, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum jail term of five years and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The re-mention of the case was fixed for yesterday for the court to hear a social report on the accused provided by the Welfare Department as the accused was a young offender.

The undefended accused admitted to keeping the stolen item belonging to a 26-year-old local man at Km 26, Jalan Papar Lama on November 4.

In a separate case, a local man was jailed for two months by the same court for trespassing into a hotel.

Albin Nasiran, 22, was convicted under Section 448 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years or with a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused, with an accomplice who is still at large, pleaded guilty to breaking into the hotel at Api-Api Centre here at 12.05 pm on December 20.
