Trio get two months’ jail for overstaying

SARIKEI: Three Indonesians were yesterday sentenced to two months’ imprisonment each by Sibu Sessions Court for overstaying in the state.

The sentence was meted out after the three foreigners, Saeful Bahri, 23, Jamhari, 28, and Nasran Hanafi, 32, pleaded guilty to separate charges framed under Section 15(1)© of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Ammend. 2002).

According the brief facts of the case read out by prosecuting officer, Inspector Anbarasu Gobi, Saful had entered the state with a social visit pass through Entikong/Tebedu Immigation Post last Oct 22 and had not returned to Indonesia since.

He had overstayed in the state for 28 days until arrested by police in Sarikei around 12.10pm last Dec 19.

Jamhari who entered the state with the same document and Immigation Post on the same date was arrested around 3pm on Dec 19 while Nasran who entered the state with a social visit pass through the same Immigation Post last Sept 1 had overstayed for 2 months and 20 days when arrested at a hotel in Sarikei on the night of Dec 21.

The sentence is to take effect from their date of arrest.
