Woman and man jailed for gang robbery

SIBU: A man and a woman were yesterday sentenced by the Sessions Court here to 10 years’ jail after they pleaded guilty to two charges of gang robbery.

Gani Limbai, 31, and Aisah Humairah, 27, were charged under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 34 of the same code.

The section provides for a maximum 20 years’ jail and liable to whipping.

Gani was ordered to be given eight strokes of the rotan.

Judge Indra Ayub sentenced Gani to 10 years’ jail and four strokes of the rotan for each of the charges, the jail terms to run concurrently.

Aisah too was sentenced to 10 years’ jail for each of the charges with the sentences to run concurrently.

Another accused, Muhammad Aliff Faisal Muhammad Soleh, 20, pleaded not guilty to the same charges.

His case comes up for trial on Jan 13.

According to the brief facts in the charge sheet, at about 10pm on Oct 20, 2013, Raushan Kumar and his friend Anand Kumar went to see their friend in a hotel at Market Road.

They were approached by four individuals identified as Gani, Aisah, Muhammad Aliff and one still at large downstairs of the hotel.

Muhammad Aliff and the one still at large allegedly pointed a multi-function folding knife at Raushan and Anand.

Then Gani and Aisah took away the passports, handphones, RM700 cash and other items from Raushan and Anand.

On Oct 21, 2013 at about 3.30am, police arrested Gani and recovered a handphone believed taken from Raushan.

Gani told police three of his friends were also involved in the robbery.

Aisah was arrested at the Central Market, which led to the arrest of Muhammad Aliff at Channel Road.

Gani and Muhammad Aliff told police during interrogation that they had put the folding knife on a bed in a hotel.

Later, Raushan and Anand identified the three accused as those who robbed them, and the recovered items as those taken from them.
