Woman jailed for cheating

KOTA KINABALU: The Magistrate’s Court here yesterday sentenced a local woman to two years’ jail for two counts of cheating involving a total amount of RM16,000.

Magistrate Ryan Sagirann Rayner Jr imposed the sentence on Kee Noorayudah Mohd Ayub, 25, after she pleaded guilty to all the charges.

In the first count, Kee admitted to inducing Noraini @ Aini Talip into giving her RM7,000 for the purpose of helping the victim to buy a house in Taman Layar Impian, Tuaran by posing as the niece of the general manager of the Housing and Town Development Board (LPPB).

The offence was committed on April 17, 2013 at Cyber City 2, Penampang.

The charge under Section 420 of the Penal Code provides for a maximum ten years’ jail and with whipping, and shall also be liable to fine upon conviction.

For the second count, the accused induced the same victim to hand over RM9,000 for the purpose of paying a home deposit in April, 2013 around 2pm in Penampang.

The court sentenced Kee to two years’ jail for each count and ordered for both the sentences to run concurrently.

Kee has several previous conviction records for cheating.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Syahrin Ali prosecuted the case while the accused was unrepresented.
