KUALA LUMPUR: A 10-year-old boy is feared drowned after falling into a swollen monsoon drain in Jalan Suasana, Cheras, here yesterday afternoon.

In the 4pm incident, Salman Mokhtar was said to be descending a hillslope there with three friends on their way home after a heavy downpour.

According to his neighbour, Rafidah Hassan, 37, Salman was believed to have slipped and glided into the drain.

“My son Yusoff Amri, 12, said he tried to save Salman but the current was too strong and he himself had to cling to a steel pipe to prevent himself from being swept away,” she said when met at the scene.

Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director of operations Mohamad Sani Harul said the search operation to locate Salman had to be stopped at 10.30pm and would resume at first light tomorrow.– Bernama
