GEORGE TOWN: A man died in a cooking gas explosion incident at his house at the Seri Impian Flats in Farlim here yesterday.

Lee Hooi Han, 43, who was said to be mentally unsound, suffered 100 per cent burns in the 12.30pm incident.

Penang Hospital forensics specialist Datuk Dr Zahari Noor, when met at the scene, said a cigarette lighter was found not far from the charred body.

He added that a post-mortem would be done at the hospital.

The man’s father, Thean Huat, 78, who was alerted on the incident by a neighbour, said Hooi Han, a widower, lived alone at the house.

“Recently, he became severely depressed…my son had been suffering mental problems for about two years so much so he had to quit his job at a nightclub here,” he said.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Gan Kong Meng said the police had classifed the case as sudden death pending the post-mortem report. — Bernama
