KOTA KINABALU: The High Court here yesterday extended an order for psychiatric observation on a Filipino man charged with murder.

Judge Ravinthran Paramuguru extended the observation period for another month and fixed February 10, this year to review Juli Kanoi’s case after the extended period.

Juli is charged with murdering Bibiah Daud at 7pm on August 27, 2012 in front of a house at Kampung Cenderakasih, Luyang.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death penalty.

He faces a similar charge under the same section and same Act for murdering Minah Daud, at the same time and place.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Dominic Chew Ban Huat made an application for an extension of the observation order.

On November 15, 2013, the accused, represented by counsel Nelson Angang, was asked by court to be placed under observation as Juli seemed unfit for plea to be taken.

The prosecution then had no objection to the defense’s application as they also faced difficulties communicating with the accused.
