SIBU: Chief Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Abdullah Saidol yesterday said there was no truth in the speculation that Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud would step down on Feb 28.

“I do not know how the rumour had come about, but it is not true,” he told reporters.

A news portal reported recently that Taib was going to step down on or before Feb 28 to take over as the new Head of State.

Saidol said the news was just a speculation played up in the social media.

He said Taib himself had never made any announcement about his stepping down.

“Let the chief minister decide when he wants to step down. And as president of PBB – the largest party in state BN – he will consult with others in the party before making such a big decision,” Saidol said.
