KAPIT: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Kapit branch has called on the Central Working Committee (CWC) to reveal the contents of the show-cause letters issued to the party by the Registrar of Societies (ROS).

SUPP Kapit chairman Yeo Kim Hock said the CWC must be responsible and let all party members know the contents of the letters.

“SUPP doesn’t belong to any individual — it belongs to the party members and supporters. The leaders must be responsible and sensitive to the voice of the members. How can one or two individuals with selfish desires ruin the party?” he told a press conference after the branch’s first committee meeting for the year on Tuesday.

Yeo said the branch also wanted the CWC to resolve the party’s leadership crisis to avoid being deregistered

“As it is now, our main concern or task should be focussed on finding a way to save the party from being deregistered. Since 2011, when the party leadership crisis surfaced, SUPP Kapit has kept quiet and remained silent because we didn’t want to make things complicated and be accused of siding with one of the two quarrelling leaders.

“Nevertheless, we’ve been sidelined and received unfair treatment. Still, we kept quiet because we love the party and hoped that by remaining silent, the two factions would settle their dispute without interference from other branches. Now, we’ve no choice but to speak up because we’re worried about the party’s deregistration. We love the party and we want to find an amicable solution to resolve the party’s crisis,” he said.

He stressed that it was absolutely wrong for the CWC to proceed with its meeting in Kuching last week even though the party already received the show-cause letters, and the move to sack several key party leaders, including SUPP Sibu chief Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, had derailed efforts to save the party.
